Moving Forward Once Again

I am blessed to report that things finally seem to be falling into place with the house! It took two gruelling weeks, but Cameron and I (mostly Cameron) finally got all the corrections made to the roof and finished building the parts of the roof that had been left undone. Many times we just wanted to give up, but our love of the Lord and belief that this is His will kept us determined.   Apparently, we passed "the test"; and God faithfully has rewarded our diligence.

At the last minute (according to our timetable, of course, not God's) we found someone to shingle the roof, and as of today, the main roof is completed. (Hallelujah!!) Just two small sections on either gable end remain, and they will be finished sometime this week. But the house is now protected against the rain. God is so awesome, too, because the young man who is doing the shingling, as a result of working with "our" Kevin (you remember, the homeless guy who was going to commit suicide but accepted Christ and then went to work for our carpenter? After we fired the carpenter, Kevin came to work for us.), has gotten several more roofing jobs (which Kevin will also work with him on - they work very well together) and is going to start his own roofing buisness.

The water main has been run to the house, and water has now been hooked up into the house. The company that did the basement came back and backfilled the foundation, smoothed out the grade, and cut out our driveway. Last Friday, the septic contractor started putting in the septic system and will likely finish that tomorrow, and the guys from the HVAC company started putting in the duct work for the heating and cooling system; they expect to be done by Thursday. We found a guy to build the deck/porch all the way around the house for almost exactly what we budgeted for it, and he's going to start tomorrow. The electrical contractor should be there probably next weekend to run the wiring. And...through Aaron (the young man doing the shingling), we may have found someone to do the drywall. My son, Jay, arrives tomorrow night; and he will be here  a couple of weeks to work with Kevin on some of the indoor things that are still not done as well as to do the finish grade of the landscape now that major digging is done (I hope).

The turning point seems to have been firing the carpenter and just digging in and doing what had to be done. We're still about a month behind schedule (again, ours, not God's), but things are once again moving forward and for that we are very grateful! (We will soon have updated pictures on the website.)

Thank you to everyone who has been so faithful to pray for this house - I know that we have had a lot of prayer support, and it shows! Please continue to keep this project in prayer - we're gaining ground, but the battle isn't over yet!
